D. Richard Hyssong IV arrived on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 9:32 AM.  He weighed in at 8 lbs 8 ozs and 20 inches in length.  Mother and baby are doing well and are resting at home.  Big sister, Makayla, is very excited to finally have her baby brother.

Still no baby yet.  It could be any time now as the due date is this Friday.  We look forward to meeting the new baby boy soon.

January 13, 2012

We are in Florida and will be doing five concerts this week.  It's busy, but we've seen a lot of old friends and made new ones.

Every time the telephone rings, we wonder if Kelly has gone into labor, but we have nothing to report yet.  The due date is January 27th, so it can't be long.

On our way to Florida, we stopped in Tennessee to finish our new recording.  Our 2012 recording will be released this spring.

It is not easy for Richard to be separated from Kelly and Makayla while they wait for the baby to arrive.  Makayla also misses her Daddy and the other day she said, "I want to go down to Florida to be with Daddy."  Kelly told her they would after her baby brother is born.

We had a great weekend with Greater Vision and our first day at Dollywood was wonderful.  Our family has a lot more news to come in the next couple of days and also some new pictures that we will post.

Our family just released a new Christmas CD.  Not only is Makayla's picture on the back, she also has her debut on this one.  You'll not want to miss this.

Today is Susan's birthday.  Happy birthday, Susan!     

Richard & Kelly celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary  on October 1st.

Many of you receive our newsletter and have heard the news.  Richard & Kelly are expecting their second child, a boy, on January 27, 2012!!!  Makayla is excited to become a big sister and Dell & Susan are also looking forward to another grandchild.  Kelly went to the pediatric cardiologist on Thursday and everything looks fine with the baby's heart.  We are so grateful for God's goodness!!!

         Our family has been singing and ministering all over in the last two months.  We had a very successful Canada tour and met some new friends.  The Lord has been blessing and several people have accepted Christ.  Praise the Lord!

         Makayla continues to grow tall and impress us with all her abilities.  She always puts a smile on our faces.  Time goes by so fast.  It is hard to believe that she will be 3 next month.

      Makayla went in for her cardiologist appointment this afternoon.  He listened to her heart and said that it sounded normal.  We then went in to the room to do the ultrasound.  He said that those many tumors in her heart are now the size of "little white dots".  Praise the Lord!!!  In his words, "Makayla is perfectly normal".  Of course, as soon as he said that, Makayla said, "Yup".  He could not believe that she knew what he was talking about.  He was so impressed with everything that he decided not to put a halter heart monitor on her as he has done every visit in the past.  She won't have to wear that until next year.

        Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers as we continue to praise God for what He is doing.

December 15, 2010

      Makayla went to see her neurologist yesterday.  He said that she looked good and upon interaction with her, he saw she was doing things that a three-year-old would do.  After Makayla warmed up to him, she began to show him that she communicates very well at 2 and almost 5 months.  He showed her a piece of cloth with three colors on it, blue, white, and green.  He asked her to point to the green color and she did.  Then he asked her to point to the blue color and she did that too.  The neurologist said that colors are a three-year-old's skill.  In conclusion, he said she is still ahead of her age in communication and skills.

         Thank you all for praying for Makayla over the past 2 and a half years.  Your prayers have made all the difference and our family appreciates them so much.  Next Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM, Makayla goes to see her cardiologist.  Please continue to pray for Makayla, and we will give another update after that appointment.

       Makayla has an annual neurologist appointment tomorrow.  We will keep you posted on the results.

      We are having a great time at Christmas In The Smokies.  The people are wonderful and the fellowship is sweet.  Even though it is cold and spitting snow, everyone is in the Christmas spirit. 

      Speaking of Christmas, it is only 18 days away and we are not quite ready yet.  Makayla cannot wait to help put the Christmas tree up and decorate it.  She is so excited and this year will be lots of fun.

        Happy Anniversary to Richard & Kelly today!

        It was great to see everyone last weekend at the Hoppers/Hyssongs concerts.  We had two sold-out concerts.  Thank you to everyone who came out.  Richard even had the opportunity to sing with the Hoppers on two of their songs.  Our family had a wonderful weekend with each of you.  Pictures will be posted shortly in the gallery of the concerts.

        Update on Hyssongs.

Richard saw the ENT this afternoon and he has no damage to his vocal chords.  Praise the Lord!  Dell and Richard are both on steroids and are still a little hoarse, but have greatly improved.  Kelly is experiencing a sore throat.  We look forward to resuming our scheduled concerts this Thursday.  Thank you for the prayers, e-mails, and concern.

        The Hyssongs had a serious problem at the diesel pumps at a truck stop.

We were at a gas station, Dell had gotten out to pump when we heard a loud noise and smoke was everywhere. Kelly and Richard jumped out of the motorhome thinking the worst. We could not see anything but smoke. We literally could not see our hand in front of our face. Kelly went to the front screaming for Dell. Richard crawled on the ground searching for Dell because he could not hear or find him. Finally we heard him from the other side of the motorhome. What had happened was a truck had reved up his engine and the pipes on top sparked which caused the fire extinguishers to go off. The chemical from the fire extinguishers that came out violently covered us and the inside and outside of the motor home. The EMTs put saline in our eyes because they were red and burning from the chemical. Richard and Dell are extremely hoarse from inhaling the chemicals. Richard has an appointment on Monday in Portland with an ENT. We are in New York heading home, but we had to cancel the four concerts for the weekend. Susan and Makayla were already in the gas station giving them our credit card. Praise the Lord!

        Our song, "I'm Expecting A Miracle", has now been on the Singing News charts for four months.  We are excited that it has done so well around the country.  Our next song that will be released is "Jesus Stepped In".

        Wow!  This summer is just flying by.  We just got back from the Alaska Gospel Singing Cruise and it was fantastic.  The singing, sights, and fellowship was great!

        Makayla is now 2 years old and as busy as ever.  Some more pictures will be uploaded under the gallery soon.

        We arrived home from El Salvador two weeks ago and have been busy ever since.  Pictures of our trip will become available for viewing on our web site soon.  In the last two weeks we have had several great services and met some wonderful people.  Makayla is now 22 months old and is stringing words together to form sentences!  Praise the Lord!  More pictures of Makayla will be up for viewing soon too.  She has grown so much.

        Dell and Richard have recorded another trumpet/trombone CD and we will let you know when it becomes available on our Music page.

        Well, time has just flown this winter.  It is hard to believe that Spring is coming so soon.  God has blessed so much.  Makayla is almost 20 months old now and is miss personality plus.  We had a great time on the Western Caribbean cruise this year and hope you will join us as we go the Caribbean next February.  Check out the Upcoming Trips for more information.  Thank you for all your prayer and support as we continue to travel and sing.

        The new year is here and we are keeping busy.  God has blessed us with a full schedule.  Makayla is nearing 18 months and had her appointments with her cardiologist and neurologist.  The tumors in her heart are continuing to shrink and he said that they have shrunk 75% from the size they were originally!!!  The neurologist said that she is developing normally and that she is advanced for her age.  Just last week, Makayla came down with a viral infection as well as a bacterial infection.  So she is on medication and is getting back to her normal self.  She is a very active and talkative little girl.

        Our family had a wonderful Christmas.  It was exciting to see Makayla opening her presents.  She had a grand time tearing off all the paper.  What a great time to celebrate our Savior's birth.  We pray that you all had a blessed Christmas. We are looking forward to another year of serving our Lord.

        Well, all the lights are being strung and trees are being trimmed getting ready for Christmas.  What a joyous time of year when we can celebrate the birth of Jesus.

        This year, Makayla will have a little bit more of an idea about Christmas and why we celebrate.  She gets all excited when she sees lights and Christmas trees all decorated.  She surprises us all the time with new words that she has learned and different things she has picked up just by watching us.  She is fun just to watch.  We do go back to the cardiologist and the neurologist this month, so please keep Makayla in your prayers.  More pictures will be added to the gallery soon.

        We now have our two new CDs, EXPECTING MIRACLES and CHILDREN'S SONGS VOL. 1.  You can learn more about these two CDs by clicking on the music button.  Expecting Miracles is our new trio CD and we also did the Children's Songs Vol. 1 and brought in a choir of children to help us sing them.  These are songs that your kids and grandkids can sing along with.  If you would like to order either of these CDs, you can call us, e-mail, or send by mail and order form with a check.

        This is a busy and exciting time of year as we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We hope to see you at Christmas In The Smokies in two weeks or an upcoming concert.

         Fall is here and the leaves are beautiful.  This month there is much cause for celebration in our family as Richard and Kelly had their 4th year anniversary on October 1st.  Tomorrow, October 8th, is Susan's birthday and on the 25th is Dell's birthday.

         Makayla is walking now and getting everywhere she wants to go and getting into everything as well.  She will be 15 months on October 19th.  She is growing up so fast.  Check out the gallery in a couple of days.  I will post some pictures of her walking.

         It has been a great summer and very busy.  We are currently working on a new project due out in a few months.  In a few days we will be at the National Quartet Convention.  If you will be there, we would love to see you.

         Makayla is doing very well.  She is coming so close to walking.  It won't be long now.  She has taken a couple of steps, so we are excited.  We go back to the cardiologist and neurologist in November and December.  When we get an update, we will post it.  Thank you all for your continued prayers for Makayla.

         Our family has been busy in the last few weeks.  The concerts have been wonderful with people's lives being changed.  Richard continues to do his radio program, "Joy For The Journey", on 88.9 FM every Saturday from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM.  Makayla keeps us busy as she gets around and into everything she can.  She is doing well right now and on schedule developmentally.  Thank you for all your prayers as she continues to develop.

         Check out the Upcoming Trips above and come with us on vacation.  The Alaska Cruise is a great price right now, but it will go up soon.  We are also going to Pigeon Forge, TN at the beginning of December and to the Western Caribbean next February.  Come join us!

         We had a GREAT time with THE HOPPERS last weekend.  All three concerts were well attended and the Maine and Massachusetts concerts were sold out.  Soon you will be able to see pictures posted in the gallery.

         Makayla is crawling all over the place and pulling herself up to stand.  It won't be long and she'll be walking.  We still can't believe that she will be a year old in July.  Where did the time go?  Check the gallery soon and you will find more pictures of Makayla too.

        Yesterday, Makayla had two appointments with the neurologist and pediatric cardiologist.  The neurologist was very pleased with the way she is developing and sees no lapse in her development at this time.  He even said she is a little ahead of schedule.  The pediatric cardiologist was amazed at how good she looked and how much she has grown.  Her heart rate is normal and from looking at the ultrasound, the tumor that was blocking blood flow continues to shrink, as well as all the others.  We praise the Lord for the miracle he is continuing in Makayla's life.  Thank you all for your prayers and concern for Makayla.  We appreciate them so much.

          People have been asking about Makayla's health.  We appreciate your prayers.  She will not have another appointment until April 27th.  We will not know anything more until then, but she seems to be developing and growing normally right now.  Check out the gallery for some updated pictures of Makayla.

          We have been very busy this last month.  The Lord has blessed us with a full schedule.  Richard continues to host his radio program on Saturdays from 2:00-6:00 PM on God's Country 88.9 called "Joy For The Journey".

           We have started our Florida tour and have enjoyed seeing old friends, including friends we had met at Rumney.  We have an incredibly busy schedule that we praise the Lord for.  Some friends have graciously allowed us to use their home to base out of while we are in Florida. 

           Our song, "Here I Go Again", hit #9 on the Gospel Music News radio charts.  Some may wonder why that's important.  Yesterday Richard received a call from someone who heard one of our songs on her local radio station and she explained how the song has made a difference in her life during a difficult time.  She had called the station to hear the song again and then proceeded to call her family members and have them listen too.  We thank the Lord for using our songs to touch many people.

          Makayla is a good little traveler, although she is still too small to carry the heavier equipment.

           On Wednesday Makayla had two appointments in Portland with her neurologist and cardiologist.  The first saw that she is still developing normally.  The second looked at her heart and saw that the tumor that was blocking 55% of blood flow through her heart is now only blocking 20%!  Her heart is still beating normally and she is getting plenty of blood flow.  Both doctors okayed her for travel and for that we praise the Lord.  Thank you for your prayers and concern.  Please continue to pray as Makayla continues to grow and develop.  She brings such joy into our lives.

           Makayla had her appointment at the hospital.  The next day, our pediatrician called to tell us that her kidneys are normal with no tumors in them.  Praise the Lord!

           Yesterday Makayla had an appointment with the geneticist.  She saw that Makayla was developing normally at this point, doing everything a four month old should.  They had done some tests and they came back normal.  Before the next appointment there will be more tests done.  We know this good report is a result of all the prayers being said on her behalf.  Thank you all for your continued prayers and concern.  We are excited for Makayla's first Thanksgiving and all the joy she is bringing to our lives.  From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!

            We have driven all over the Southeast the last few days.  After last night's concert two ladies came to the altar to get saved and two more received Christ during the morning service.  We recorded a TV program on TV 33 out of LaGrange, GA last night.  Driving today we saw snow in Virginia.

            We've had two very busy weeks.  Our family has seen many come to Christ, including five in Canton, NC.

            Last week we finished our vocals and mixing on our next CD.  It should be released around the first of the year.

            Last night we were on the John Lanier Show and had a great time.  The show will be broadcasted in December.  Makayla was there with us and she made her first television appearance at just seventeen weeks old.  She seemed to enjoy it because after the cameras stopped rolling, she smiled and cooed half the night.

            Speaking of Makayla, the cardiologist called to let us know the latest heart monitor results.  As he suspected, the heartbeat is normal right now.  Keep praying as God is doing great things in her life.  Thank you for your concerns and friendship.  Check out our gallery.             Thank you for your prayers and concern for Makayla.  Makayla had two appointments today.  The first one with her neurologist and the second one with the pediatric cardiologist.  Even with all the brain tumors, Makayla is developing well right now.  Her progress will be closely monitored and we are going day by day.  The cardiologist said for the first time that the tumor in the aorta is shrinking.  It is not affecting the blood flow and he does not foresee a complete blockage, praise the Lord!  He also mentioned that the heart is now not only beating normally, but also at the correct speed.  The other 19 tumors in the heart are not affecting the heart at this point.  Makayla is now cleared to travel with us anywhere in the country.  Please continue to keep her in prayer.  We have many more tests coming up and we'll keep you updated.  Check out new photos in the gallery.

            We had a great weekend and saw many of our friends and made many new ones as well.

            Our event with the radio station WDYN down in Chattanooga, TN is now scheduled at 6:30 PM.  You should come early to get a seat.  Check out our schedule to see when we will be in your area.

            Makayla has two appointments on Monday, the 27th.  She will see the neurologist and the heart specialist.  These are only checkups to see what is going on now.  We will keep you posted next week.  Also we will have more pictures of her as well as pictures of our trip this weekend posted in the gallery.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

            Richard's program can be heard a week from Saturday due to the radio station's Share-a-thon.  He can be heard at the Share-a-thon on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Tune in at www.worshipradionetwork.org and support your local Christian radio station.

              Thank you for your prayers.  Yesterday Makayla came through the MRI okay.    The test did show that she has benign tumors in her brain.  She also saw a neurologist with the results.  He cannot give a future diagnosis, but did say that Makayla is developing normally right now.  Please keep Makayla in your prayers as she continues to develop.  We will have another appointment for her heart at the end of the month.  Look for more pictures of Makayla in the gallery soon!

             Makayla had an appointment today and her aorta is 55% blocked by a tumor.  Praise God nothing has changed!  She goes back for more tests at the end of September.   Makayla and Kelly will not be travelling with us for now, per the specialist's orders as Makayla needs to be close to the specialist.   We look forward to when Kelly and Makayla can go back on the road.   Pray for Richard as he will be away from home so much with the busy schedule.

          It has been a whirlwind week singing in Maine, Ohio, and Vermont.  In each concert we saw God move.  The doctor allowed Makayla to travel with us and she attended her first Hyssong concert in Ohio.  However, she only lasted thirty minutes before becoming hungry.  In a couple days we will update you on Makayla's health.  We will be adding more pictures to the gallery soon, including one of the three of us.  

          Many have been asking about Richard's new radio program on 88.9 God's Country out of the state of Maine.  You can listen to it on Saturday from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM on worshipradionetwork.org and click on Listen Live.  You will be inspired by the music as well as listen to Richard talk about The Hyssong's travels, personal experiences with other artists, and stories.  We know that you will be encouraged as you listen each week.

          Thank you for your prayers and concern about Makayla.  She has a scheduled test with the cardiologist next week.  At this point we have to wait until late September for more tests and an MRI.  They want to wait until she grows a little bigger.  After this we will see what further steps need to be taken.  The doctors are keeping a close eye on her until then.

          Our song, "God Is There", has hit the charts again for September and is climbing.  As you can imagine, that song has more meaning to Richard and Kelly than it ever has before.

         Please keep Makayla in your prayers.  The doctors have found tumors in her heart and on Friday also found tumors in her brain.  Remember Makayla, as well as Richard and Kelly at this time.  More tests will be performed in the upcoming weeks.  Check out the gallery for more pictures of Makayla.

         1.  "God Is There" is #61 on the charts for the month of August.  It has been on the charts and climbing for three months now.  Call your local southern gospel radio station and request it today.  

         2.  Tune in to 88.9 FM on Saturdays from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM as Richard now hosts a show called "Joy For The Journey".  You will be blessed as you listen to country Christian as well as southern gospel music.

         3.  Richard and Kelly are excited to announce the birth of Makayla Lynn, born on Saturday, July 19th at 4:44 AM.  She weighed in at 8 pounds 2 ounces and measured 20 and a half inches long.  Look for more pictures soon in the gallery.
